The Loyal Mongoose

The Loyal Mongoose

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a farmer and his wife. They had a newborn baby boy whom they loved dearly. To protect their child, they decided to adopt a mongoose. The mongoose was very loyal and quickly became a beloved member of the family.

One day, the farmer’s wife had to go to the market, and the farmer was working in the fields. She asked the mongoose to watch over the baby while she was away. The mongoose took his duty seriously and stayed close to the baby’s crib.

While the mongoose was guarding the baby, a venomous snake slithered into the house. The mongoose saw the snake approaching the crib and immediately sprang into action. A fierce battle ensued between the mongoose and the snake. The mongoose, determined to protect the baby, fought bravely and finally killed the snake.

When the farmer’s wife returned home, she saw the mongoose at the doorstep, covered in blood. Horrified, she thought the mongoose had harmed her baby. Without thinking, she grabbed a heavy stick and struck the mongoose, killing him instantly.

Rushing inside, she found the baby safe and sound, with the dead snake lying nearby. Realizing her terrible mistake, the farmer’s wife was filled with grief and remorse. She had killed the loyal mongoose who had saved her child’s life.

From that day on, the farmer and his wife never forgot the lesson they had learned.

Moral of the story: Think before you act, and do not let appearances deceive you.
